119. Woodham Burn, looking downstream

Woodham Fen near Newton Aycliffe, adjacent to the A1M and is similar to Bishop’s Fen.

This project focusses on the Woodham Burn watercourse that flows from the Shildon area through Newton Aycliffe and joins the Skerne near Preston-le-Skerne.

A section of Woodham Burn that is overly straight, deep and wide will be re-meandered, with plans to use the burn’s original path on the site. We’re also planning to create a mosaic of wetland habitats that improve the area for birds, insects and amphibians and flood storage during times of high water.
