Durham Wildlife Trust/Discover Brightwater were delighted with the recent Northumbrian Water Innovation Festival. Over 3 days, at Gosforth Racecourse, they took part in an innovation ‘sprint’ to help plan how to continue to improve the river Skerne and its catchment. The sprint, which is a series of structured facilitated workshops, attracted a wide range of experts from both the environmental sector and the water industry to explore ideas about the best and quickest ways to improve water quality, river and wetland habitats and support local farmers and land managers.

Following the sprint, managers and partners are working on producing a clear, costed business plan to follow the work of Discover Brightwater with its remit to ‘Restore, Reveal and Celebrate Life around the River Skerne’.
