Every September thousands of volunteers across England organise events to celebrate our fantastic history and culture. It’s a great opportunity to explore, learn and discover hidden places.
Heritage Open Days are all about celebrating community, our rich heritage, history, and sharing stories and memories, which right now feels more important than ever. Due to the current circumstances, many events will be offered online or as a virtual experience, so we can Discover Brightwater and beyond from the safety and comfort of our home.
Put your feet up with a cuppa and join us as we uncover 2000 years of history from the Roman sandal wearers of Sedgefield through the swan-eating Prince Bishops at Middleham and trace our unique heritage which includes the legendary Durham Ox, and the world’s oldest passenger railway company
