During the last two years the LADDER centre have worked to motivate and encourage members of the community from the Ferryhill, Chilton and Cornforth areas to become involved in exercise and sporting activities to improve their overall health and wellbeing.
They have set up a very well supported walking group which meets weekly at The Ferryhill Ladder Centre for short walks around Ferryhill. This group is made up of people aged mid 20’s to late 70’s from diverse backgrounds and from right across the 4together Partnership AAP area. Currently the Ferryhill, Chilton and Cornforth area has a significant number of people moving into the area from the South of the Country. Often new residents have no one they know in the area and are unaware of the history and culture of County Durham.
Aware of the need to tackle social isolation and improve overall health and wellbeing in the community the group has enabled people, often those on low income, to not only make new friends and improve their health but also learn about and appreciate the area that they live in.Â
As soon as it’s safe to do so we will be supporting The LADDER Centre project with free minibus hire, and covering the costs of driver and support workers for the trips which will enable the group to travel further afield and take part in activities and volunteering opportunities.Â
