In partnership with Groundwork North East & Cumbria, we are pleased to announce our first Blacksmithing for Beginners Workshop

Matt Whittaker will lead The Blacksmithing for Beginners Workshop – Matt has been working with wood and steel for over twenty years now. “What first attracted me to these materials and the crafts of the Greenwood and Forge was their immediacy, the need for a very few tools in order to be able to create practical, everyday objects”.

We will start the day with simple S-hooks to get everyone in the mood followed by fireside pokers with twirled handles or a toasting fork.

This course will cover forging techniques as well as annealing, hardening and tempering.

It is suitable for complete beginners.

We are asking for a contribution of £10 for the workshop, which will get you a hot drink and a slice of cake from the cafe and secure your place on this fantastic heritage training opportunity.

The workshop is funded by The National Lottery Heritage Fund and led by Durham Wildlife Trust.

Thanks to National Lottery players
