E I think has to be for engineering and for this I might need your help, we’ve got the history and legacy of the Stockton and Darlington Railway, associations with pioneering engineers such as George Stephenson and John Fowler, the area has been associated with bridges and still is. There’s engineering connected with mining and farming innovations. There are still large engineering companies in the area from Cummings in Darlington, to Gestamp and Hitachi in Newton Aycliffe.
We would love to hear from our local engineers to learn about your normal working day, how has it changed from say the 1950s or 60’s compared to today? I’d be really interested to find how current social distancing has affected the engineering workplace? Maybe you have a relative that shares tales from when they worked on the railway?
If so please get in touch and share your story we’d love to include them in our online museum, please drop an email to sarah@bwlp.co.uk
