South Park, Darlington DL1 5TD
South Park is a Grade II registered historic park and the proud owner of a Green Flag Award. You can find this beautiful Victorian park on A167 road heading south from Darlington Town. It was the first Victorian park in the North East of England and was opened to the public way back in 1853 as ‘Belassis Park’
Our friends at The National Lottery Heritage Fund helped fund a multi-million-pound restoration project which paid towards fantastic education facilities including a purpose-built extension which is used by local school groups.
We like the park so much that in 2019 we awarded the Friends of South Park a £2000 community grant to help towards further improvements and promotions, you can read more about that here
If the year-round events and glorious scenery aren’t enough for you there’s also a huge range of activities and facilities on-site including:
Toddler and a junior play park, multi-use games area, bandstand, skate park, bowling green, green gym, aviary, and cafe.
