Cockerton Prize Silver Band - Awarded £2000

Cockerton Prize Silver Band is this year celebrating 150 years since it was formally founded back in 1870. It is treasured by the people of Cockerton and Darlington and has a long standing reputation for supporting events in the local community.

In March 2020 they became the Second Section Northern Area Regional Champions, qualifying for the National Brass Championships in Cheltenham later in the year and promotion to First Section from 2021. This will be their second consecutive visit to Cheltenham and the latest of several occasions when the band has appeared there.

Last year they were awarded with a £2000 community grant which was used to cover the cost of the trip to Cheltenham including transport, accommodation  and rehearsal venues.

A message from the band…

“We might be locked down and out of our band room, but we still have our front rooms! It’ll take more than a virus to silence Cockerton!”

We cant wait to see the band back together as soon as it’s safe to do so!
