The Cheese & Wine Shop – 8 Clarks Yard, Darlington DL3 7QH
You can find this charming little shop nestled away in Clark’s Yard in Darlington. Owners Katy & Claire serve a huge range of hard-to-find & local cheeses, fine wine, and delicious deli items.
The building was originally Pease’s Wine Merchants and their wine cellars are still underneath the shop. The walls of the building, and Echo Coffee Shop opposite, are ‘chamfered’ or scooped out. This allowed horse-drawn carriages to pass in the narrow Finkle (the name for the elbow in the yard).
Described as ‘Aladdin’s Cave’ this is not just your regular cheese and wine merchant. You’ll find packaged Spanish Deli meats from Brindisa. A hand-picked selection of the best jams, curds, and marmalade. They also offer a huge range of crackers, toasts, bread, grissini, fruit jellies for cheese, pickled vegetables, chutney, pickles, piccalilli, and crisps!
